I had to bring this post back into the light, since I'm still getting tons of emails on how to activate the gnome in the Sims 2. It is a fairly simple process if you follow the instructions provided on the cheat pages. Please let me know if you have a better alternative way to explain it. Thanks!
The Sims 2 on the PlayStation 2 console has a bunch of cheat codes available. These cheats allow you to fill all motives, get 9,999 Simoleons, set the skill level for any Sim, unlock all recipes, object, lots, locations, clothing, and more. The problem is, you have to activate the 'Cheat Gnome' in order to use any of these cheats.
Using cheats in The Sims 2 is brutally easy, you just have to activate the Gnome first. I have outlined the whole process a bit more clearly on The Sims 2 PS2 Cheats page, since my wording was a bit vague before.
Incidently, if you need cheats for The Sims 2 on any other platform, including the PC expansions, take a look at the Top Sims 2 Cheats page, which lists the cheats for every version of The Sims 2.

Well, what I did was go into the options menu and insert the cheat code. If your sim is a boy that you are controlling at the moment, you will hear a strange laugh. If it’s a girl, you’ll hear a sigh. Then after a few sim minutes, you will see a trophy-like thing.

You do the gnome code when your story mode/free play is loading. Like when you click Memory slot 1 or memory slot 2. Make sense?

All day I have been searching google as it is my little sisters birthday and she just bought the Sims 2 PS2 and I wanted to know the cheats BUT(here is the problem)
When i do the gnome activation cheat it doesn’t work so I left for 5 min and came back and looked at the mailbox and around it.
On the side was a weird statue looking thing with that /\
\/ weird shape on top of it but my sims cant interact with it so i did what you said with the gnome cheat and then the other cheats but my sims still couldn’t interact with it and yes I did it will the game was on pause.

Meya, after you have the gnome there, enter the codes for some of the cheats you would like to apply, then interact with the gnome and you will be able to activate and deactivate the ones that were entered correctly.

first you put in the cheat for the knome then you put the other cheats in likr the motives cheat then after your done go to the knome and press x you will see a list of cheats you put in then pick and press x again
I got the gnome up but the other cheats won’t work. I tried it on pause. But since you have to hold down L1 already to pause…
When you pause you press START and then you do the cheat code not L1
you don’t have 2 pause it for it 2 work just enter the cheats in the regular mode where you can walk around then go up 2 the gnome and press x then choose the cheat you want 2 activate

I answer these when i can, but I’m not sure what else to do for some of the people that are having issues with the gnome. I don’t get it when everyone said ” pause the game “! Is it pressing L1 button or is it entering the menu by pressing start button or is it when saving game??? the problem is, when you hold L1 to pause, and press other button for the code, the curso keep moving (like: from other char as press R2…) and same when in menu. Only when saving game that we can enter the code without messing the curso. So, what does everyone mean by “pause the game” ????

The gnome cheat works. You need to enter the cheat on pause & you’ll hear a sigh. Un-pause it then enter the other cheats. When you’ve done that go to the white diamond shape (gnome) outside & activate the cheats. I struggled at 1st but they do honestly work
and you don’t have to put the game on the pause menu (by pressing START ) you can just put it in in-game.
NOTE: You DO NOT press L1 to “pause” the game!!!!!

you dont have to pause the game to het the “gnome” on the screen,, all you do is typ in the “gnome” cade and it will apear

The Gnome cheat WORKS!:), if you follow the instructions precisely, however this may take a few tries. FIRST press pause using the START button, NOT L1, (holding L1 will prevent you from entering the code correctly)make sure you have the code copied down right and clearly so that you don’t have to search for the next symbol or lose your place, (taking too much time between each button will prevent it from recognizing the code). Have the code right in front of you and enter the code by pressing each button hard and individually, but making sure NOT to take time between striking each one. Be sure that you let go fully of each button before pressing the next so that they don’t overlap. Also, a problem I experienced was that my controller was sticking but not enough to be obvious during game-play, just enough to keep a button pressed for a milisecond and mess up my code. I changed controllers and alleviated the problem, (you can also take them apart and clean under the pads – sometimes dirty buttons cause sticking). You will know you’ve entered a code correctly when you hear a female sim sigh. When the gnome appears, (a translucent white diamond shape near the mailbox)and after you’ve entered your other codes, you can stand in front of it and press X (make sure your sim is lined up to it)and an option menu will appear.
Also, the Gnome code must be entered FIRST, before any other cheats or the other cheats won’t be activated.
on sims 2 -ps2- i am on storymode, 2 player and my sim walks around but she wont do anything like go to the toilet, bounce oin trampoline, watch tv, or interact with sims. Do i have to start again or is there something i can do? please answer…

When you enter the cheat for the gnome, dont enter it on pause, who ever told you that doesnt know what he is talking about. You go on it when you are playing.
First enter this = L1 L1 R1 X X UP
Then hold down triangle and do this = TRIANGLE DOWN RIGHT UP RIGHT DOWN RIGHT UP

How I do my cheats to get the cheats to the Sims2 for PS2. It is How i do it I do R1,L1,R2,Right Left yes it is the money code but it has never failed me before.Firs thing first when you enter the cheats try having a Sim in the Shower or looking for a job first and then enter the codes you will hear a faint womans bored moan you have entered the cheat gnome. hope this helps.

Ok the gnome cheat explained……..
Play in Free play mode. press the start button. enter the cheat code. Hear the sigh? watch the statuette appear. walk up to it. stand still. enter the other codes. you will hear a sigh after every code. if not your hitting the wrong buttons. after entering the codes. Press the X button. Hey presto your all cheated up. Now for the tricky part….. NOT.
Save the game. go to story mode.
You have all the cheats already there. Now how difficult was that? I did it while stood on my head, making a cheese and sourdough sandwich….
Oh one more thing. I dont even play this game, my girlfriend does. And I managed to get it to work first time!
If this way does not work for you, you only have one more thing left to do. Sell it and move on!

For those who are trying to just get the gnome at first. When you go to put in the code for the gnome you do NOT hold down the L1 button for pause you press the start button.
Also for all cheats you must put in the correct buttons in each phrase in under 3 seconds. So you HAVE to do it quickly or else the code will not activate.

ok when you type in the gnome cheat[L1, R1, up, X and R2]you dont pause you do it in game play.and to activate the other cheats you have to stand by the gnome and enter them in game play.ps the gnome dosent look like a gnome its a dimond statue.

Thank you *Someone says”!!! After nearly 70 messages someone FINALLY answers the question, “do you have to enter the gnome code each and every time, or just the first time you activate it”! Sheesh! All these smart assed computer geek gurus here and not one person would speak simple english beyond “just enter the code dummy”. This isn’t the only forum for which that has stood true either, several others just reiterate the same snarky geekness re: getting the orignal gnome. And by the way, very few game experts have bothered to explain that you have to enter the codes quickly, and that it takes some digital dexterity to do so. I finally got the gnome up, but there IS a rhythm to it. I’ll let you know if I have any luck with the others now that I know you have to pre-enter the gnome cheat each time prior to the other cheats. Good luck all. (Ps, on the babies in PS2 thing, I’ve heard all over the internet that you can only get them in the PC version).

When you enter the gnome code, make sure you’re inside and not standing directly in front of the sidewalk. I had the same problem and this seemed to help.

to activate the gnome you have to click the start button and then go onto a disabled icon then click L1, R1, UP, X and then R2. remember to go onto a disabled icon eg. the padlock or the camera, then do it. and also when you have done it you hear a male/female sigh. this cheat is only on PS2.

anyhoo, these cheats r good coz i wanted to build a sick house for my sim =] but i have a bit of a problem….
lol, after i enter the money cheat and save it i have all that money for good yeah, so now i have all my money and im trying to build my house. only when the “fire restriction thing”… the building violations thing the game has on PS2 that says you cant build anymore at a certain point and if you do then your stuff burns and you cant build anymore and my house isnt even close to finish, just cant buy all the things i want….

to activate the cheat gnome you do it during game play not during pause. You have to do it kind of fast but not to fast. And the sim will make a yawning noise when you activate a code thats how you will know its correct. Its pretty easy. Does anyone no how you can have a baby? if you can married and “woohoo” why not get pregnant? but how?

Ok FIRST OFF, you can not have babies in the sims for PS2!!!
Second, with the gnome, you do not need it to be paused in order for the cheat to work, just put the code in at a quick steady pace and if you hear a woman or man sigh then it worked.
To activate it, put the codes you want in, if the code was put in correctly you will hear the sigh again, once you hear it go to select mode [Press select] and go to the gnome [the white diamond statue thingy] and select it and there’s your cheats.

Okay so you just enter it as your playing and youll hear a weird laugh or you Sim sigh. Then you go by your mailbox and its there you can enter in cheats then you go by the “gnome” thing and it’ll have your cheat there then you just click on it and yah… you should get the rest.

you dont pause the game to get the gnome on all you do is typ in the code and the gnome will apear
for the gnome you have to type in the gnome cheat and then it should come up by the mail box or in the garden area. then stand by the gnome statue and type in the cheat then press x and a list should come up and the cheats you have typed in should be there and then all you do is click on them.

You dont need to pause do like this.
Enter the gnome code [ without pause] then you hear a female voice “ahhhh” then go check outside [if you hear the voice surely its correct] then put the cheats with the right comands Simple!

you can remove the blurs but idk how and as for the babies I’m not sure I’ve never tried. Seriously tho the gnome is way easy. Just read. But on the skill level cheat it sighs for one of my 3 players but makes an uh uh noise for the other two. Why?

The cheat code page for The Sims 2 has very clear wording on how to activate the gnome and then how to activate the codes. There are also many helpful comments here but please do not email anyone who has left their email address as it is more than likely someone simply collecting emails so they can add you to a spam list.
I’ve done my best to remove most of the BS comments, but I’m sure many still remain. Just look at the instructions on the official vgstrategies cheat code page for The Sims 2 on PS2.

Hey guys, after trying to get the gnome cheat to work for an hour by repeatedly entering the cheat, I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t going to work :’)

So I changed the PS2 controller, entered the cheat again and it worked, my woman made a sigh and a gnome appeared by the mailbox. So my recommendation is that if you have two PS2 controllers, change the one you’re using to the other one, and try entering the cheat again
i did the gnome cheat and the wee gnome thing did come up. but i cant click on it. i tryed doing the team photo cheat and every time i do it i either hear “Ahhhhhhh (a girl sighing)” or a man ” eh eh” like uno if ur saying no. so please help me and tell me why its not working if anyone can. thanks, chloe
