How to Upgrade Your PS3 Hard Drive in 5 to 10 Minutes

Saturday September 15, 2007

The PlayStation 3 video game console comes with a 20, 60, or 80 Gig hard drive, depending on the model you puchase. I'm not sure why Sony or Microsoft even released a 20 Gig hard drive with any of their consoles, its just not enough room. Today we have downloadable game content, game trailers, game demos, and more — where are you going to store all these goodies?

The answer is simple — upgrade your PS3 hard drive; I swapped out my 20 Gig PS3 hard drive for a 160 Gig one in less than 5 minutes. Its so simple I'm almost certain that with the right tools anyone can perform this upgrade in about 10 minutes, no joke. If you have installed memory on a PC, this is even more simplistic.

I met two of the folks from Seagate (off site), one of the world's largest hard drive manufacturers while they were announcing the OneTouch series (off site), and they showed me how simple it is. If you need more space on your PS3 hard drive then this is the guide to read. Special thanks to Seagate for pointing out just how simple this process really is.

The idea behind the article is to make it so that anyone, regardless of their knowledge of computers, consoles, etc. would be able to perform the upgrade. For an experienced user, then yes, this tutorial could be much shorter. The idea is to make it something anyone can do though, so experienced users can simply read through and perform the upgrade, while novice users can refer to the tutorial. Thanks for the comment.
