Dragon Age: Origins Cheats - PC

By November 8, 2009

Follow me on:

Update: There have been a couple modifications and additions to the Dragon Age: Origins cheat code pages. Now, it should be easy to activate the cheats (even on the Steam version) if you follow the instructions as written. Thanks to all the contributors.

Dragon Age: Origins pc cheat codes are here. They aren't exactly the easiest codes to activate, but they are worth the time once you have them going... here are the details.

Please note: The use of cheat codes for Dragon Age: Origins requires the use of a command line parameter, and editing of a game file. As such, it is highly recommended that you first make a backup of any files before you edit them.

(1) sarg312 says:

I’ve tried entering the cheat codes the way you have it and it doesn’t work. when I’m in the game and I press the key to enter the codes and start typing in the codes and the all the different map windows and Character windows open up depending on which key I hit. I’ve done everything exactly the way it is shown and it doesn’t work.

(2) MonkeyWrench says:

I had trouble initially getting the cheats to work as well but I have worked it out: After creating the shortcut, adding the Target on shortcut and changing letter on the key binding (make sure you change to `), run the game and while in game press pause and then type in the cheat, as soon as you type the first letters of the cheat a bunch of letters and numbers will apear on the top screen, just ignore it, type in the cheat correctly and press enter.

Vladi is correct… from the cheat code page:

Additional notes: This has been tested on the retail version of the game, not the Steam version (if you have more details send them over and we’ll note it here). Also, you may not see the cheat console or what you are typing… this is normal, continue entering the code and they should work as described.

crabsncancer : you need to modify daorigins.exe, not daoriginslauncher.exe
Xanastian : It’s in [whatever windows calls your default documents folder, e.g.My Documents]\Bioware\Dragon Age\Settings
Chaosrex – you need to add -enabledeveloperconsole after the quotes, not within them

Yeah – me toowith the “no exe file” issue. using steam version so i know it might not work, but im wondering if i could add some line into the Daoriins config file to the same effect of the -enabledeveloperconsole …. i think the exe file is only activated online through the steam client, which is a pain. IF YOU DONT HAVE THIS GAME YET BUT WANT IT –DONT BUY THE STEAM VERSION!!! you cant even play the damn game if your internet goes down.

Do i need to end the code with the given key?

Cause i saw someone used the y (small) as the key..but that doesn’t work…I used the ~….but I need to press Shift and then the ~ button before it reacts within the game

can anyone tell me whyat I can be doing wrong.. or does someone thing what is the best usable key for the key-settings

Yes my character stop moving when pushin ~, tryed to hit backspace 2 times 50 times not at all…. nothing seem to work.

November 19, 2009 at 2:02 am
(37) Roelandt says:

Confirmed, a double space after .exe” works. My game file is on the desktop so it looks like this:

“C:\Users\Me\Desktop\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

However, like the previous user, assigining the tidle key (`) in KeyBindings brings up a list of all letter and numbers in white along the top of the screen, and no variations of backspaces and command entries works. I tried “y” but “y” doesn’t work at all. I wonder if there’s a trainer software? This ain’t workin.

(38) Gil says:

Using the steam version of the game, so my short cut is more like
“C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\dragon age origins\bin_ship\DAOrigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

When I open up the console, I can’t tell at all that I’m typing into it and have a list of characters at the top of the screen. Still works though, if you type it right.

(39) Thomas says:

How can you tell if you have opened the console if you cant see it? I have a Steam version and have done the -enabledeveloperconsol with 2x spaces and changed my consolekey to Button_x. I simply cant tell if i have opened the console or not.

(42) Jyn says:

After doing all the above (with 2 spaces and “C:\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole and changing GRAVE to q in KeyBindings); did NOT work.
Then I left the above as is BUT instead of pressing q, I pressed ` then I could enter the money code with 1500000 and got 150 gold.
Note: After pressing ` other letters, like i (inventory) no longer do anything, then when starting to type the cheat code I see a bunch of white letters across the top of the screen.

November 21, 2009 at 1:25 pm
(43) aceras says:

to remove the letters and allow yourself to do things after you enter the cheat, you have to hit return/enter again. for those of you using some random letter to engage the console, there is no need to change the .ini file. just use the key right above tab (`) to engage the console. you will NOT be able to see what you enter.
on another note, after you type a command in, you can hit the ` key and then the up arrow to reuse your last command.

November 23, 2009 at 4:07 pm
(45) Gsmith says:

I had all the same problems that everyone else here seems to be having, but I did solve them all. The instructions here are correct, but a little hazy. First of all, you don’t need two spaces after daorigins.exe, only one space. In fact if you put in two spaces it will simply default back to a single space as soon as you save the change. Furthermore, you do not need to alter the keybindings.ini file. leaving it at (grave) will work when you hit the tilda key. I think the problem people are having comes from inputting the actual cheat code incorrectly. That at lest is where I was screwing up. The cheat code for money is runscript zz_money xxxxxxx. Note that there must be a space between runscript and zz_money as well as between zz_money and the amount you want (xxxxxx). I kept leaving out the space after runscript. Once I realized that, everything worked perfectly. Also, as someone else pointed out; once you have typed in the cheat code you hit enter, then hit the tilda key to close the console, then hit enter again in order to unfreeze the game. It really does work.

November 2, 2011 at 7:33 am
(47) IRogue says:

THIS is correct. I followed the hazy directions given at more than one website, all to no avail. In the end, I had to go back and undo the changes to the keybindings file. It works fine without any changes made to this file, using the tilde key without using shift. ` and ‘ look very similar in these instructions, but they are not the same. Leave the keybindings file alone, use the tilde key without shift, and create a shortcut on the desktop using the DAO exe file in the bin folder–NOT the launcher. One or two spaces makes no difference, ignore all that rubbish. Make sure you have a space at the end of the target after which you will append the -enable… thingy as instructed. Then, launching from this altered shortcut on the desktop should allow the cheats to work. It doesn’t help not being able to see what you’re typing. I had tons of trouble trying to get it to work… and it would just open up the maps and all that nonsense. Once I got it working, immediately upon pressing that ` key I got all the letters at the top of the screen. Snarks, trolls and jerks, shove off.

Thank you adybaby. I was altering the launch file before so it didn’t work. Works now. Again thanks for clarifying.

November 25, 2009 at 5:01 am
(53) Gsmith says:

I’m not sure how it can be made any easier or clearer. If you followed the directions correctly then it will work, if it doesn’t work then you did not follow them correctly, it’s that simple. So, right click on your desktop and select New-shortcut, and browse to the installation directory for Dragon Age (ex C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age). Open the directory and open the bin_ship subdirectory (it’s the very first one). the second item in the list should read daorigins.exe. Click on that to highlight it and click on Open, then click on Next, then click on finish. Now you have your desktop icon with the correct target. Next, right click on the icon, and select Properties at the bottom of the pop up menu. Scroll to the end of the line in the Target window, put a space after daorigins.exe” and type -enabledeveloperconsole. Click on Apply and then click on OK. That takes care of the icon. Despite what many people have said you do not need to edit the keybinding.ini file. Let me repeat that, you do not need to edit the keybinding.ini file. If you leave it alone, then hitting the itlda key in game will bring up the console. In the game, hit the tilda key, nothing will appear to happen. Type in the cheat code you want, for instance “runscript zz_money 500000″ (do I have to say no quotes?). As soon as you type the letter “R” (if you have done everything correctly up to this point) you will see several lines of white letters at the top of the screen, don’t worry about them that is supposed to happen. Just type the code. Remember, there must be a space after runscript and another space after zz_money. Now hit Enter. Next hit the tilda key. Now hit Enter agian. That’s it

November 25, 2009 at 8:40 am
(54) Vladi says:

I also have Vista.

I DOES work for me.

Now, a couple of things. IF you change the keybindings and then hit the tilde (by mistake or whatnot) your game will freeze there at that point. Best not to hit the tilde.

I found it best to use an unassigned F-key as the activator key. Personally, I used F8. That way there is no accidental activation.

If those little white letters come up on the screen, you are doing it right once you start with your “runscript …”.
If they don’t, then you need to recheck your .ini and your shortcut.

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

That is EXACTLY as it is on my shortcut. Note the quotes. Note the space after the last ” and the – before enable. If that space is not there, it will not work (One space is all you need).

thanks

November 25, 2009 at 12:29 pm
(56) Gsmith says:

Well, your problem is obvious, your target is still wrong despite repeated posts giving you the correct target. If you look at my post and Vladi’s post, the target is supposed to say “C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole, NOT “C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\DAOriginsLauncher.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole. Copy the correct target, and paste it into your shortcut. R.I.F.

It works for me, just need to figure out why some of the cheats do not work. IE: addparty

Also anyone have the Skill number list?

November 26, 2009 at 1:19 pm
(60) Vladi says:

Not sure on that. Hasn’t worked for me either. Tried it with the names of the character as well as the number assigned to character.

Of course, tried when I had the max 4 of the party size already. Not sure if they will allow a bypass to allow more then 4, or that is only allowed when you have 3 characters, thus in a sense, by passing the normal method of bringing up the party selection screen.

(62) dumdum says:

For german users (maybe others too):
Don’t change the keybindings.ini as described above. No 2 spaces needed between daorigins.exe and param (e.g.: „C:\Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe“ -enabledeveloperconsole) Ingame you don’t press ~ (Tilde), you press ^. BUT!!!!! When you press the ^-key, it is in memory and the next key you press will result in for example “^r” when you start typing the “runscript…” command. So there’s the ^ sign as the first char in the command line. You need to delete the ^ at the beginning of the command line (even though you don’t see it) by pressing backspace (<-) after you hit ^. So do the following:
1. Create shortcut on desktop with target "„\bin_ship\daorigins.exe“ –enabledeveloperconsole as described above
2. Start the Game, load Savegame
3. Press ^
4. Press backspace (<–)
5. Enter command (e.g. runscript zz_money 1000000)
6. Press Enter

What can I do??

December 2, 2009 at 7:27 am
(68) Hayvern says:

It works.

-enabledeveloperconsole needs to be outside the the double quotes. Only issue I faced was that I installed the game without creating a desktop shortcut. If you don’t have a desktop shortcut, u’ll have to create one then enter the -enabledeveloperconsole.

If you see the list of white characters, it means you’ve keyed the wrong code. So press F8 and try again. Always end ur code with enter.

I’m using F8 as the Open console key. I’m using the Steam version of the game. Press F8 once, nothing will happen, but you will be able to type the code when otherwise you will not be able to because most of the keys open a menu/inventory or journal. Once the code’s been entered (note you will not see the code being written in the console), press enter.

Tada! Gold coins.

(69) Cenovis says:

It’s been posted before but I just wanted to reiterate that the SHORTCUT TARGET that you specify isn’t supposed to point to “DAOriginsLauncher.exe” but “DAorigins.exe”. I made this mistake because I assumed that the shortcut on my desktop already pointed to the right file so I wouldn’t have to make another one. WRONG. If you already have a shortcut on the desktop, it probably points to the launcher and not the game exe.

(86) Cinnamon says:

-enabledeveloperconsole WORKS!

1st
Add it to your shortcut as described!
eg.
“C:\Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

mind the space after the ”

2nd..
Locate your KeyBindings.ini
open it with any text editor
locate the line :
OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_B

if it is still unassigned type in any button you like

3rd
Load your game
Press the assigned key
Type in the commandlines
!You will not see the console, but it is there!
After enabling the console you will not be able to walk foward or perform any other action…
hence you can be sure the console it there!

press enter to execute the command you typed!

WORKS!
CAN’T BE EASIER TO DO :)

(90) Tom says:

OK, this is the way you make the cheat work. Add the -enabledeveloperconsole to the properties of the shortcut to DA which should look just like this this;

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

There is one space between the exe” and the -enabledeveloperconsole.

Now go to the C:\Users\You Name\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings and open the KeyBindings.ini (Make a copy of this and store in another folder for backup) in notepad, then edit the line item:

OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave

To look like this:

OpenConsole_=Keyboard::Button_`

NOTE that the “0″ was removed, something not shown in any instructions here or on many sites. Now, the little icon is the one I used which is the ~ button, but you can use any button you please not already used in the game.

I want to give Youtube user
luzes369 crdit for this as he ha dposted the fix there when many complained of the video instructions not working

2. right-click on it and select Send To..Desktop
3. Right-Click on daorigins.exe – shortcut on your desktop and select Properties
4. Look for the Target box (if your path has spaces, you need to enclose it in double-quotes
“D:\My Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” “-enabledeveloperconsole”
5. in the game press your selected letter, start typing your cheat, there will be alphabets, numbers and others chars across the top of your game screen and it blink something like “set immortal = 1″

ENJOY!

(92) Dan says:

I think I figured out what is confusing people. Or what confused me, at least. I was editing the shortcut created by the game on the desktop. Problem is, that shortcut points to the “DAOriginsLauncher.exe” file instead of the “daorigins.exe” file in the bin_ship folder. Both start the game, but the launcher brings up a menu that you have to click the play button to actually get to the game, thus bypassing the -enabledeveloperconsole command.

In short, double-check that the shortcut you’re editing is pointing to daorigins.exe instead of the launcher. Hope this helps!!

(95) Wargasm says:

Ok, for those of you having trouble with enabling console…
The shortcut placed on your desktop after install leads to “DAOriginsLauncher” instead of the actual exe file “daorgins”. Adding console to the launcher will NOT work. Instead find and create a shortcut for the latter (it will be in the “bin_ship” folder). Now add the “-enabledeveloperconsole” to the end of the target bar. NOTE! There must be a space between the last italics and the minus or you’ll just get that annoying error. The codes will work on any version of windows so long as the shortcut points to “daorigins.exe”. Now in-game press ` to open console (you won’t actually be able to see it), now press backspace a few times, enter the code, then press enter. If it worked, congrats. If not, you either typed the code wrong or you just ignored everything I just said…

(108) Hercules1991 says:

Alright listen up I hope this helps.

When looking for the daorigins.exe file.

go to the directory that you saved the program in. usually (“C:\Program Files\Dragon Age) look for and go into the bin_ship folder. In there you will find daorigins.exe it might not have the .exe part. if not that just means the file extension is hidden. It is the same thing. After you create the shortcut, right click on it and then click on properties. go to where it says target. place cursor right after the last ” and hit the space key once. then type -enabledeveloperconsole hit apply or ok.

first part done. you must then actually start the game. I’m not sure you have to start a new game or not, but I did. If you don’t start the program then the settings file you’ll look for next won’t be there. now exit the game. (If you started a new game then save and quit.)

go to my documents > then bioware folder > then Dragon age folder > then settings folder> open up keybindings file. scroll down to the appropriate part it

(OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave)

now delete the word GRAVE and in it’s place choose a button you don’t use during the game. I chose ` it is to the left of the number 1 key. above the tab key.

when you press it in game nothing will happen. you simply start typing your code. you can check to see if it works by pressing the I key. if your inventory doesn’t open then it’s working. Simply hit the backspace key enough times to delete all your hidden letters you may have or may not have types and then type in code.

NOTE: You must start game using shortcut you created. Any other way will disable the developer console function.

This couldn’t be any simpler. hope this helps.

(115) Destiny's Child says:

Running DA:O v1.02 on Windows 7 32-bit.

I think that to use the console under Windows 7, and I’d guess with Vista, you have to run DAOrigins.exe as administrator.

I managed to get the pc_immortal cheat applied (the only way I could play the game – even in easy mode I was getting bored having to reload the game time after time when ie my party of four was overwhelmed by 12 assassins or a virtually unscratchable boss etc.)

But I haven’t been able to get the ZZ-addparty cheat effective – I want my human warrior to have her ‘pet’ dog with her at all times I’m sure he would be, but he just isn’t powerful enough to warrant sacrificing a slot for.

Are you supposed to ‘break the party limit’ first by effecting the cheat and then do it again adding the fifth member or is the zz-addparty NPCname effective for both?

(121) Grizzengoo says:

Okay. This gave me problems for a while. Follow these directions EXACTLY and it will work fine.

First, delete whatever DA shortcut you have on your desktop. It is most likely NOT the one you need to modify. Second, open your “C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\” folder through my computer. Right click the icon listed as “daorigins” only. Click Create Shortcut, then click and drag this shortcut to your desktop.

Second, right click this shortcut you just made, then click Properties. This will be the same no matter what OS you are using. Click the Target: textbox, this should highlight the entire text within. Press the right arrow key to move the cursor to the end of the textbox, outside the quotes and everything. Add a space after the quotes then

-enabledeveloperconsole

Third, get to your “My Documents” folder. Normally there is a link to this on your start menu. If not, open My Computer > C: > Documents and Settings > Users > **Your User Name** > Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age > Settings. Open the KeyBindings.Ini file with notepad (or whatever text editor you prefer, I use Textpad5).

If you have a way to show Line Numbers, you are looking for line 70. Otherwise, find the entry of

OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_GRAVE

and REPLACE IT with

OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_`

Now start the game from the shortcut you created earlier. Load your game or create a new game, whatever. Press the ` key in game… also known as the key above tab (also the key you set to open the console, as above). You will likely not see what you’re typing. However, the syntax is pretty simple.

runscript cheat #####

so to add a lot of gold, you’d type

runscript zz_money 9999999

Then press ENTER. If you followed these directions exactly and you’re still opening your map and character screens, I can’t help you.

January 13, 2010 at 6:52 pm
(130) pocketnunu says:

OK I did it with a space after the last ” mark, then the “-enabledeveloperconsole” (without quotes), then hit Apply. It worked. Finally.

Also – it’s probably been mentioned already but I will say it again: when you are in-game and have brought up the console and typed in your command, press ENTER, then your chosen key that you brought up the console with. The weird letters and symbols should disappear.

Then press ENTER twice. Doing this will continue the game and all will work as before. NOT doing ENTER twice will freeze the game.

(176) Werner says:

SOLUTION: The following works;

Right-click the shortcut you use for “Dragon Age: Origins”and select properties.
Modify the command line like this:
C:\Program Files\DragonAge\bin_ship\daorigins.exe -enabledeveloperconsole

Note that the part before \bin_ship\daorigins.exe can vary depending on where you have installed the program.

While playing the game, press the “`” key (the character below ~) and then the “~” key (use shift). Then use Backspace to remove the invisible “`”.

You are now in the console window and can type the cheat code and press Enter to confirm.
For example: runscript healplayer [Enter] (to restore the health of all characters).

You can not see what you are typing + when I enter the console I get all the characters of my keyboard displayed in the top of the window.
However, this is okay. It gives you a clue that you really are in the console. The alfabet and the other characters in the top of your screen will disappear again when you continue playing.

I prefer not to use cheats, but after fighting the battle in the village Redcliffe for 20 times or so using different tactics etc., I decided that it was time for a little health cheat.
So enjoy.

i can see a good number of ID 10 T here

Make a shortcut to your “daorigins.exe” file (typically located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\bin_ship folder) on your desktop or Start Menu. Right click on shortcut, choose properties, then add the line in the *Target* field “-enabledeveloperconsole” (without the quotes) to the end of the shortcut and it should look something like:
“C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole
Be sure that there is a single space between the last quotation mark and the -.
If you have the Steam version, go to your My Games tab and right-click on Dragon Age: Origins. In the General tab you will see a “Set launch options…” button. Click on it and add “-enabledeveloperconsole” (without quotes) to the start options field.

Another option is to edit the file data\DAOriginsLauncher.xml. This will allow you to run the game from it’s normal shortcut but requires you to edit a game file which should be done carefully and not before taking a backup of the file. Find the line

“”.

The line below should be something like this.

“”.

Add an attribute arguments=”-enabledeveloperconsole” to it make it read

I’ve enabled consoles like this in other games with no problems, but this one won’t work for me no matter what I tried out of the previous comments. I’m thinking it is because I have the Ultimate Edition. Please post if you have gotten it to work with the UE. Thx.

November 6, 2010 at 7:15 am
(213) Koki says:

Hey everyone! I find the real problem :)
You don’t have to change the keybinding.ini file most cases because the game won’t react for the key given (so leave it in the ..button_GRAVE form).
Just write the -enabledeveloperconsole after ..daorigins.exe”.
I red lot of comments about various problems but nothing worked for me, so I lost my patient and went back to the game and tried out all the number buttons with Shift pressed. And voila: my appropriate button is Shift+2, the ” sign.
So everyone who has the open-console problem should try out all the possible buttons and the console will open (you can be sure if the console open, because then you cannot move with the characters). Then to close the console just press again your working button and hit enter ;)
hope I could help you out :)

I also have the Ultimate Edition of Dragon Age, Win 7 64-bit. I followed all instructions to the letter, but was also unable to get the console working with the -enabledeveloperconsole option. The only successful method was editing the XML file directly, as indicated in the wiki:

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Console

After doing so, the console has always worked. Just MAKE SURE you create a backup of the XML file before you edit it, in case something goes wrong.

(219) NotARetard says:

I bought DA origins a while ago. I used these cheats with no problems. This was on the original ship version.
I then got the expansion which also updated to 1.03

Now they dont work.
1. My icon is identical, I checked the command after it for shits anyways.
2. I verified my console is working. This is easy, you just press the console button, then try to move your character with the keyboard. If no movement, the console is active.

I’ve been using computers for 21 years now (windows 2.0) and I am confidant after checking a rechecking (and since the console is obviously working) that either the command to activate the cheats has changed OR they have been removed from 1.03 (which is required for the expansion if you have it)

Before you rebut this post, ask yourself “Am I smarter than 90% of the people who posted above?” If not, you are retarded and you would be kind to do the world a favor and not post your comment. If have a comment that involves WHAT the command was changed to(command being the line after the quoted exe file name in the shortcut), if the actual console commands used to cheat where changed(as in “runscript zz_money 10000″ etc), or you know the console cheats have been removed entirely then you actually have valuable data that I am sure everyone who reads this would value.

One last thing – to the people who post messages talking sh*t about cheating on a cheat site: Without you the world would have no morality. Cheating in video games is a crime worse than raping babies. Thank you for your valuable service! I can now sleep at night… wait.. if you don’t cheat why are you here? .. NOOOO my heroes are frauds!!!

(221) Seranel says:

I too have been using computers for a very long time. I know for an absolute 100% fact that I have created the shortcut correctly. I’ve tried every combination of key bindings, from GRAVE, Grave, TILDE, Tilde, Y, y, L, l, F8, with and without the 0. I’ve tried -enabledeveloperconsole with one space, two spaces, one dash, two dashes, tried entering that in the Launch Properties in Steam… So please don’t just give another iteration of the exact same instructions.

I have never once gotten the console to work. No matter what I do, I launch the game, open my save, press whatever key/keys I have set to open the console, and I still have full control in the game. I’ve tried hitting backspace first, and still when I type a code, various windows like inventory always come up.

I’m 100% sure my shortcut points to DAOrigins.exe. One person mentioned that when the shortcut points to the Launcher, it still brings up the launch window (with Configuration, Support, Play, etc). This implies that when you open it with the DAOrigins.exe shortcut, the launch window would not open. Yet for me, it still does, and I suspect this is the problem. In some other games, I’ve been able to use command line parameters to disable the launcher window, for example, with City of Heroes, to disable the program that makes sure it’s up to date when that part of their servers was down for a few days.

Is there such a command for DAO?

(222) L/\N|)O says:

@Seranel
Edit a game file as in http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Console (“By editing a game file”). I think this option adds arguments when launching the game with launcher window.

Dont iterate SAME answers noobs. 99% of posts here are useless (9827349 iterations of same answer). The Seranel post and posts with pointing to wikipedia helped me (and editing the DAOriginsLauncher.xml).

okay guys i also had the same problems like you guys did.. and was annoyed and pissed.. but i got it to work.. hope it will work for you its very simple:

add the -enabledeveloperconsole on the target box in the shortcut properties.. (doesnt matter if u use 1 space,2spaces, no space)

after that theres no need to change keybindings.ini file… start the game.. once in the game press “~” (if you guys know counterstrike, its the same console key) you’ll know when its working if you try to move around using ur mouse and ur not able to then the console is open..

press backspace a few times to make sure u didnt type anything (the console or the codes will not be visilble)

enter the code u want along with spaces then press enter..

hope this helps

ok guys… i have windows ult edition running on 64 bit windows 7 DLC

I have followed all the instructions to the point but still with problems on the way…

first problem: i had the proper daorigins.exe shortcut and but command line inside the quotes = Bad Idea… command line needs to be on the outside of the quotation with one space in between and then” “-enabledeveloperconsole”
i thought yes finally it no longer says the target field is invalid… go to start up the game from desktop and wat happens another error WTH? application load error 5:0000065434

Worked on the op’s before by just having daorigins.exe and then properties -enabledeveloper console and with bindings set yeah was great

i have edited the daoriginsloader.xml or something and didnt work either…

any help from people who have had same problems but sorted it out would be the dogs bollocks pls help me!?

i have dao ultimate edition running on 64 bit windows 7 ultimate with DLC

Just use this website it is safe norton checked it over….

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Console

You just need to read the Using a shortcut paragraph

AND… By editing a game file paragraph

BTW… copy the final example it gives and then highlight what is already in that line of code and paste the finla example over what you just highlighted

AND… Accessing the console paragraphs

i only read as far as the first paragraph, you may need to read more, but X button brings up my console nicely

The person who made the website is a legend :D DDD

I’ve done everything to the letter to get this console enabled for me the only problem is that whenever I try to start up the game, a window pops up and it says;

“Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening

Could not find the Dragon Age disk. Please insert the disk and try again.”

Only I don’t have a disc to insert… O_-

Hey guys, when Binding a key to bring up the console, keep in mind that some keyboards wont register the “~” key. It has something to do with regional codes from keyboard manufacturers or something like that. Thats why in Elder scrolls oblivion, people was unable to use the “~” key to bring up the console, as was set by default from Bethesda. So if you dont seem to be having any luck bringing up the console or using it, Make SURE you didnt set your console key to “~” Keep in mind you may also set combinations of keys to bring up console such as “CTRL+SHIFT” or CTRL+ALT+SHIFT”. Just saying though. someone may have already posted this info, I didnt have time to read all 1000 posts, but if not, I hope that helps with the problem of not using console.

Here’s what I’ve done so far on a Win7 64 bit, and I have the game installed via Steam:

I’ve made a shortcut from this file:

C:\Programfiles (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Dragon age ultimate edition\bin_ship\DAOrigins.exe

I’ve edited the info to include the enabledeveloperconsole like shown below on that shortcut:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dragon age ultimate edition\bin_ship\DAOrigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

I’ve edited this file:

C:\Users\Arminius\My Documents\BioWare\DragonAge\Setting\keybindings.ini

I’ve only edited the top of the keybindings regarding consoles.
Last thing I tried were | button as seen below. I’ve also tried dozens of other keys.

OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_|

Still it wont work.
How do I know it?
Well I have tried both pausing the game and doing it “realtime”, still when I start to type the code (obviously after trying the key assigned in keybindings, but also a bunch others incase it ignores it) it opens the World Map when i hit n.
So that means it does not work for me so far.
I suspect it’s Steam’s fault somehow, and will look at the launch alternatives one can preset in Steam itself…Perhaps the solution lies there.

I reccomend trying this Dragon Age Wiki for the console info….also has info for getting steam version working (as well as tons of other info relating to it and all the codes).

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Console

Also try this mod to make the console visable -
http://dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1110
(you will likely need a free membership)

The console isn’t normally visable because the installer doesn’t install the fonts.erf file correctly.

Running Win 7 Home 64bit, DA:O Ultimate Edition

GSmith’s post (and those like it) are spot on. Must create a new shortcut and add the script to the target. Simple as pie just follow their directions. If you can navigate around your HD you can do this, it is not rocket science. They are absolutely correct in that you DO NOT need to change the .ini script line.

IF you already were playing using the original shortcut you will need to log out and then log back into your online account after clicking on the new shortcut to ‘activate’ the DLC… or bonus content as with UE.

Works like a champ. This from a pseudo-knowledgeable, occassional console cheat user.

(237) Dean says:

i figured it out its quite simple actually
on windows 7 first go to start menu then to computer after that local disk then you should have a folder labeled something like program files *86 or something like that once in there go to dragon age then DO NOT take the game launcher from this file. continue to the folder labeled “bin_ship”
when you are in bin_ship make a short cut on the desktop from the application called “daorigins”. once you have this application rather then the one, one folder up everything is the same as the website says
Ie adding the -enabledeveloperconsole to target and all that
hope this works for you

For those of you who have problems with entering code in game (if the screen doesent even freeze after you hit whatever key you asigned),
in the keybindings text file, remove the 0 after OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X and reload the game.
Worked for me!

Gsmith said:
“I’m not sure how it can be made any easier or clearer. NOW HIT ENTER AGAIN. That’s it”

YOU MUST HIT THE ENTER KEY AGAIN. This is where I had trouble. Thanks Gsmith!

(242) Jason says:

When changing the ini file then change “OpenConsole_0″ to “OpenConsole_1″ so it looks like “OpenConsole_1=Keyboard::Button_x”, that will surely make it work. And remember to right click daorigins.exe and click make shortcut and then edit it or else it won’t be possible to edit the target line. Enjoy.

(243) Jack says:

Ok well i figured out a cheat and i dont know if others found it out too. Well its like the duplicate cheat. what you do is you buy an expensive item ( more expensive the better ). i bought a 14 gold bow an when i bought i click both mouse buttons on the item. Then i dragged it to the merchant and then let go of the right mouse button then the left. Yes it duplicates the items if you have 2 of the same items for merchant and yourself. But what it also does is sells the item for its original cost and what it would actually be if you sold a item without cheating. also if you wanted the item buying normally it would cost half as much as it would normally maybe even less. Then you leave the merchant then talk to him again and repeat the process. The price of the item resets and you can keep on getting the extra gold. I did it with a hammer that was 150 gold and got 500 gold in less than 20 sec.
