Beginner Tip (Single Note Version Only) If you are a true beginner like me, you might like this tip. I found the game pushing me into chords WAY too early in my learning career. I still struggle a lot with the single notes, and want to practice those more. Here is a tip: you can take the songs they gave you for a particular event, and change them to be the exact same song but the single-note version. Just change it from Combo or Chord to Single Note when you adjust the play list. It will remember your choice for the remainder of this event, and you can now practice the songs at a much more beginner friendly level. Of course, the singe-note version gets harder and harder too, so it will still remain a challenge for a long time if you are new to the guitar. -- Guest Metyx

Sounds like a good tip. I’m a novice guitar player that’s been playing Rocksmith for about a week now. IMHO, I feel not playing the songs in combo mode will make the game harder in the long run.
I’ve found that letting the game introduce chords to me really helped me out with my note picking. If you pay really close attention, some song’s notes are just a chord being picked one string at a time. If you let the game introduce chords, you will see this, and it will make note picking much easier. Plus, at the same time, you can be practicing your hand position for the chords while you pick the notes. It seems hard at first, but when you start to see the relationship, everything falls into place much faster.
Great tip1 I was stuck. I did what you said and the pathway changed. Thanks
So I finally made my way back to Rocksmith during the 3AM Salt system meltdown and here’s a thumbs up for the Single Note version being helpful for beginners, it has changed the way I view the fretboard. Thanks. When in doubt simply turn to the vgstrategies community, all abiding the official About.com Gamers Creed, without even knowing it.
Bonus to whomever knows the answer to this random question.
