Crackdown Firearms Skill
Perhaps one of the most common ways to dispose of enemy gang members in Crackdown is through the use of firearms. Firearms are considered to be rifles, handguns, and shotguns. While the game offers quite a few variants of each of these, it turns out that there really are only a select few that become really useful as the game progresses, so choose wisely.
I still recommend that you claim every weapon in the game by picking it up off a dead enemy drop, but chances are, you'll keep coming back to the one rifle that really helps you — the Harrington (it has 800 rounds). The handguns and sub-machine guns I found to be almost completely useless, with the exception of long battles where I have completely run my ammo dry on my main weapons.
Throughout the course of the game, simply by using firearms you will increase your firearms skill rating. A higher rating means you will be more accurate, and deal out more damage per hit. You'll actually notice a big jump in the amount of damage you can do between the different skill ratings, so it is worth the trouble, especially later in the game.
Effectively Target to Increase Your Firearms Skills
By pressing the Left Trigger you can target a specific enemy or vehicle with ease, and then blast away until it has been eliminated. Once targeted, you can also use the Right Thumbstick to further increase the accuracy of your shot. When you target an enemy an icon appears, along with a life meter. This icon represents the area of the enemy you are targeting.
If you target the arms you can make them drop their weapon so they won't fire back. Targeting in this fashion will only help you in battles where there are a few select enemies, when you have a ton of gang members to deal with you'll need to run and gun a bit more, so you won't have time to selectively target specific areas.
How to Quickly Reload in Crackdown
You ever notice how long it takes to reload a weapon in Crackdown? Specifically, the weapon of choice, the Harrington takes forever to reload, or so it seems. If you have a bunch of enemies to dispose of this can be a real setback. Fortunately, there is a quicker way to reload your guns in Crackdown.
When you press the LB (Left Bumper) to reload, quickly press the X button to switch weapons. You'll notice that before the weapon switches it will reload (almost immediately), this method is much quicker than simply waiting for the normal reload cycle.
