Why Don't Cheat Codes Save with the Game?

An explanation of why cheat code status does not always save with the game.

Enter the Cheats Again?

Here is a question I get asked very often. "Why do I have to enter the cheat codes every time I play 'X' game?" The answer is simple. Some games support the active or inactive cheat code status to be saved to the game's save file, while others do not. For games that do not support it you'll have to enter the cheat code every time you would like to play with cheats active.

Why Would They Do That?

Why? Only the developer of the specific title can answer this with 100% certainty, but for the most part cheat codes were placed in the game to enable quick testing of features during the game's development, and weren't factored in to the save function of the game. We're beginning to see more games that have cheat codes in them just for fun as well, but this explanation is adequate for most games.
