Entering Cheat Codes with International Keyboards - What to Press

How to enter cheat codes using non-US keyboards.

Why does the Keyboard Matter?

On the PC Cheats pages here at About.com most of the cheats require a certain button to be pressed to activate a cheat, or more importantly bring up the cheat console. It had never occurred to me that on non US, or non US-International keyboards that the buttons indicated on the cheat pages may not work. However, Carina Lundmark-Oquendo from Sweden filled me in on the details of her Swedish keyboard, so I thought it might be a good idea to try and develop this page to list the keyboards which will have no problems, and the keyboards which may need other buttons to be pressed.

What do you mean Buttons?

If you look at some of the PC cheats you'll notice that the majority of them require the tilde key to be pressed to bring up the cheat console. This is not set in stone, some games simply require an alpha key to be pressed, such as the Z button. In either case, the cheat pages at About.com specify which key is required for US and US-International keyboards.

Give me an Example!

Carina from Sweden wrote in about the Oblivion Cheats , which require the tilde key ( ~ ) to be pressed to load the cheat console. On a 101-key US keyboard this is not a problem, the tilde key is located just above the TAB key and a simple press does the trick. On Carina's Swedish keyboard however (and many others), the tilde key is located near the Enter key, and does nothing to load the cheat console.

The good news is that there still is a key that works. As Carina explains it is the key in the same location as the tilde key on US keyboards. (the one just above the TAB key) On a Swedish keyboard, the correct key is the one that has the ½ and § symbols on it.

Below is a list of keyboards, with specific solutions if needed. If you do not see a solution listed, try the key above the TAB key. If it works please let me know so I can update the page.
