Arcade Racer

By Jason Rybka, About.com

Definition: This term is actually quite simple, but the wording is a bit deceptive by today's usual meaning. An arcade racer is a sub-genre of Racing games, although one may think it literally means a racing game in an arcade. Arcade racers are racing titles that handle easily, and have a wide unrestricted area in which to race. In addition, the physics of arcade racers are normally not extremely realistic, and the main focus of the game is fun, over realism.
Examples:
If you like racing games where you can get right into the action and not be super careful making it to the finish line, you may enjoy an Arcade Racer, such as Burnout or Test Drive Off Road Wide Open.
