Definition: Any alteration to an existing game ranging from a fix-it of a simple bug to new graphics, architecture and sounds. Usually in order to view a patch or add-on, an official version of the game must be purchased.(Add-ons will not work with shareware demos of games.)
Video game patches comes in a couple different varieties; the most common is an officially released patch which updates the game to correct technical issue or enhance the game play, there are also unofficial patches which do the same thing.
There are also game patches that are hacked by software pirates to allow you to play a full version game without purchasing it, which of course, is illegal in most countries.
