Definition: A genre is basically a category under which a game play type falls under. Just like movies are split into categories like Thrillers, Action, Comedy, etc.; games are split up into categories called genres. Some genres include Shooters, Role Playing Games, Platformers, Family Games, Real Time Strategy, etc.
