Exporting Songs from Rock Band to Rock Band 2
How to export songs in Rock Band so they can be played in Rock Band 2.
Now that Rock Band 2 has been released it is important to note that 'almost' all of the songs available in the original Rock Band can be played in Rock Band 2. The key here is exporting them to your hard drive, which is a very simple process.
There is however, a nominal fee of 400 Microsoft Points to do so, this comes to about $5 and supports the extended use of the original licensing deal the developer made to use the songs originally.
How do I transfer the songs?
You must be connected to Xbox Live in order to transfer songs. There is a title update that will add a new menu option within the Rock Band game itself to allow you to export songs.
When selected you will be prompted to purchase a license (as explained above). Once purchased you simply select a storage device, such as your hard drive (since the songs can take about 1.3 gigabytes) and let the process go by itself.
Once completed you will be able to play all of the exported songs when you insert the Rock Band 2 disc into your Xbox 360 video game system.
What songs cannot be exported?
There are a couple of songs that are not exported, I assume this is due to licensing issues and they are as follows.
- " Run to the Hills " -- Iron Maiden
- " Paranoid " -- Black Sabbath
- " Enter Sandman " -- Metallica
Imagine that! Metallica had an issue extending rights to their music, I guess the payoff (happy fans) wasn't worth the real payoff (cash).
Anyhow, there you have it - all (or at least most) of your Rock Band 1 songs playable in Rock Band 2. Enjoy.
