Ubisoft released a hit with the latest Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the Xbox 360. Having logged in hours and hours both on and offline, the game has proven to have set a new bar for the series. The past games on the Xbox seemed to show the series had potential but failed in many ways to capture the theme it was going for.
G.R.A.W. on the other hand, seemed to nail it perfectly in every way while not an easy game to master. The Co-Op missions are fun if you know the right way to play them. This is the first of four walkthroughs detailing Chapter One in the online co-op missions, and while we won’t be able to give every little detail, if you follow the tips and suggestions, you will find that your success rate will increase.
Please note that the information here is a guide and you can use other weapons and methods. However, after playing with 4 players and even just 2 players the Co-Op mode is perhaps more challenging than the single-player missions. You have the element of friendly fire as well as an AI system that loves to change up their strategy when playing.
You will see something happen different almost each time you play and maybe this is why there are a ton of gamers who write in for tips about playing the Co-Op mode. Hang on soldier as we walk you through the more tricky areas of Old Town.
First Things First - the Right Team Members
Old Town is a wide open and large map but it has plenty of close combat areas. For this reason snipers are not recommended, and would really only be extremely helpful in the last section of the map. It is best to have at least 2 Grenadiers that know how to use their weapons and accurately launch grenades at vehicles without killing themselves or their team mates. This includes the AI team members that will help in the mission, as you know killing an AI team member will be an instant mission failure.
Personal choice of an accurate weapon is the MR-C/AGL.The reason for this is simple which is that it holds 50 rounds in a clip and a total of 400 rounds before you need to find more ammo. It also features a grenade launcher with 8 shells and is an all around perfect gun for this map. It is more accurate when you set the firing rate to single-shot and seems to load faster in this mode.
A rifleman is handy as long as they pick the right weapon and the last slot is up to each host or player. You will want 2 players that know how to accurately operate the drone just in case the leader dies during the mission. Okay, now ready up as we go though the first area of Old Town.
Objectives for a Perfect Mission
There are three objectives and several optional ones to complete. When you launch the mission, you start at the front of the steps of the Command Center which is under attack. The best way to secure the area and move on is to split up in groups of two. Each group should also have one member that is in charge of the drone. Have the rifleman and other player take out the enemies on the ground first while the grenadiers take out the first armored vehicle. Watch for the enemy to flank you from behind so keep one player available to go back for those enemies.
After blowing up the first armored vehicle, wait for the second one which will usually come in from the right side of the map below the steps. If you miss it, do not panic and have one of the grenadiers go to the drop off point and wait for it to back track around the front. You can hop on the 50 caliber and take it out or launch a grenade. After it is destroyed, the rest of the members should have the enemies cleared out and a message will flash on the screen that the Command Center is secured.
Note on enemy vehicles: While launching a grenade at the tank is sure to destroy it, sometimes it may be quicker to simply shoot the gunner on top of it. It depends who is playing and their playing style.
